1.) What is a Community Foundation?
Definition by the Council on Foundations: Community Foundations are grantmaking public charities that are dedicated to improving the lives of people in a defined local geographic area. They bring together the financial resources of individuals, families, and businesses to support effective nonprofits in their communities.
2.) Why are community foundations important?
We teach & promote philanthropy. What is philanthropy you might ask? Well by definition philanthropy is; the desire to promote the welfare of others expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.
We can teach others that philanthropy is much more than giving money to causes, which is still important, but what really goes far, is the IMPACT. Impact changes many things in an individuals life, that just might change our lifestyles for generations to come.
You’re wondering what that looks like right?
Well, a few things come to mind!
For example, becoming a mentoring tutor for a student struggling in school because of their home life. Giving them “hope for a future” (Bill Blasche) says.Another example, spending time with a veteran who may just want to go on a trip. Doing something they wish they had done their whole life! Even the littlest of effort can go a long way.
3.) Why did the Community Foundation of Morgan County decide to rebrand in the summer of 2017?
Really taking a look at our website, logo, mission, and vision we realized that we were missing our target as a “brand”. What we mean is, our logo wasn’t speaking for our philanthropic mission, and the dynamic audience we’re trying to capture. We were loosing out on the opportunities that our title gives us so much credit for!
We put together a narrative to walk you through the rebranding process, and we’ve placed our brand book here as a resource to others!
