Morgantown Begins Park Enhancements with CFMC Thrive Grant
The Town of Morgantown is happy to announce that we have been awarded a Thrive Grant by the Community Foundation of Morgan County, The Community Foundation is a non for profit foundation that offers grants to local communities and other nonprofit organizations in Morgan County. Their mission is to connect donors and their charitable giving with our evolving community needs in order to enhance the quality of life for current and future generations through impact grant making. These grants are a 50/50 matching grant that can be used by communities and other nonprofits in a broad range of applications to make an impact that will improve the quality of life for its citizens.
Morgantown is a friendly small thriving community located in the south east portion of Morgan County with a population of around a thousand people. Morgantown has several improvement projects planned for the future among these is a parks improvement project. Morgantown has two parks and some improvements have already been made. A recent recoating of the basketball court at the Sycamore street park, along with new backboards and nets, and the installation of four new benches. This project will be spread out over a period of time and involves applying for several grants to accomplish these goals The park already offers new playground equipment which was installed recently with a rubber mulch surround, two baseball diamonds, concession stand and a community garden. Plans are in progress to have grading and site work done to improve drainage. Future plans include a walking trail, a shelter house, a new T-ball field, picnic tables with grills, benches at the playground, improved bleacher areas, and public access.
The awarded grant will be used for the purchase and installation of four benches at the Sycamore street park basketball court, two benches near the newly installed playground equipment and two picnic tables with grills placed on concrete pads. The park is already receiving an increase in public use due to the new equipment. We are hoping this will improve even more with the addition of these amenities. The goal is to improve the park, improve the experience at the park, and improve the overall quality of life for the citizens of the Morgantown community.
We are so happy for and thankful to these unknown heroes who through their kindness and generosity help make the quality of life better for everyone and to the Community Foundation who through their work help connect the dots that make it all possible.
