Mooresville High School Receives CFMC Grant to Establish Student Resource Center
Mooresville, Indiana – June 6, 2024 – Mooresville High School is proud to announce the receipt of a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Morgan County to establish a Student Resource Center on its campus. This grant underscores the Foundation’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and supporting student success within the community.
The creation of the Student Resource Center is a significant milestone for Mooresville High School, as it will serve as a vital hub for academic support, mental health resources, collaboration, and enrichment for students and staff alike. The grant, awarded in recognition of the school’s dedication to student achievement, will enable the transformation of an existing space into a dynamic learning environment tailored to meet the diverse needs of the student body. “We really want to create a welcoming space for all students to receive whatever type of support it is that they need. Our Student Support Center will build a space where students can support other students and, hopefully, in the process, reduce some of the stigma associated with asking for help in any capacity,” said Emily Roscoe, Mental Health Coordinator for Mooresville Schools.
With the receipt of the $10,000 grant, MHS will be able to purchase all materials necessary to transform an existing classroom into a flexible space including a variety of items including everything from furniture to a food and hygiene pantry. One of the primary objectives of the Student Resource Center is to provide a supportive and inclusive space for struggling learners. Equipped with resources and dedicated staff, this facility will offer personalized assistance, academic guidance, mental health support and pantry items to students seeking additional help in their studies and personal lives. By fostering a nurturing environment, Mooresville High School administrators aim to empower every student to achieve their full potential and succeed academically and emotionally.
Moreover, the Student Resource Center will serve as a versatile venue for small group meetings and collaborative learning activities. Whether it is for group projects, study sessions, or club meetings, students will have access to a conducive space that promotes engagement, teamwork, and creativity. Within the Student Support Center, student interns will serve as academic tutors and liaisons to resources, also providing an excellent opportunity for our student interns.
In addition to academic and mental health support, the Student Resource Center will also host lunch and learn sessions for both students and staff. These sessions will provide valuable opportunities for personal and professional development, covering a wide range of topics such as time management, post-grad planning, suicide prevention, vape cessation, and more. From guest speakers and workshops to skill-building sessions, the lunch and learn sessions will enrich the school community by fostering continuous learning and dialogue.
Mr. Wes Upton, Principal of Mooresville High School, expressed his gratitude for the Foundation’s support, stating, “The establishment of the Student Resource Center represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to provide a supportive and enriching educational experience for all students. We are immensely grateful to the Community Foundation of Morgan County for their generosity and commitment to our school community.”
The Community Foundation of Morgan County’s investment in Mooresville High School’s Student Resource Center underscores the Foundation’s dedication to advancing educational opportunities and empowering future generations. Through this collaborative partnership, Mooresville High School administrators look forward to creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic excellence, collaboration, personal growth, and mental well-being.
