Academy Building β 1110
The Save the Academy Fund is a fund which is used for maintenance and upkeep of our historic landmark β which houses a museum, a one-room school, public meeting space, and our community foundation office.
Purpose: To provide endowment funds to benefit the upkeep of the historic Academy Building. As endowed funds, the principal of the fund will remain while interest earnings may be utilized for maintenance and upkeep of the building.
History: The Academy Building, which sits on the Newby Memorial Elementary School campus has been restored and is listed on the National Historic Register. Later the building was deeded to the community and became Indianaβs only privately funded school building that was open to public education. The building now serves as a local history museum, the Academy of Hoosier Heritage, which includes a pioneer classroom setup.

Purpose: This fund exists to provide direct monetary resources towards the encouragement, assistance and inspiration of families in the greater Martinsville area to overcome physical, home and/or health-related challenges through the direct and exclusive administrative assistance of the family services coordinators within the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville, Indiana.
History: The late Becky Sonnegaβs life inspired and made better the lives of her husband, children, friends, church family, and all of those to whom she extended an understanding word and a caring demeanor. Despite her courageous five (5) year battle with Stage 4 Cancer, Becky consistently placed the good and well-being of others before her own needs and concerns, even as her illness diminished both energy and strength.

Educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend accredited two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning and are non-smokers
Purpose: To provide an educational scholarship for students who are accepted into and attend a credited two-or-four year public or private institutions of high education.
History: Polly Amy, a Morgan county resident and activist, lost her husband to lung cancer and created this scholarship a way to positively impact young people to encourage them to abstain from smoking or to quit smoking. The scholarship is designed to let high school students in Morgan County to pledge to be non-smokers through high school. Give them a colored wrist band to denote their pledge. Create a non-smoking as a status symbol for high school student in Morgan County. The pledge will allow them to be included in a name pool eligible for scholarships for graduating seniors who are continuing their education. The scholarship ship is known as the βParents Against Youth Smokingβ or PAYS scholarship because it actually pays to not smoke!

Purpose: To provide support to the Community Service Center of Morgan County.
History: The Center was established to address the needs of the homeless in Morgan County with emphasis on self-sufficiency for families, permanent housing choices, and collaboration to upgrade and sustain employment. The Center serves as a focal point for services, referrals, emergency shelter, transitional housing food, clothing, childcare resources, life skills training and classes, counseling as well as follow up advocacy and resources for former residents.

Purpose: An operating endowment fund for Desert Rose, a non-profit organization providing safe and secure transitional shelter for battered women and their children.
History: The Desert Rose Foundation, Inc. was formed in 2001, becoming an official 501(c)(3) not-for-profit later that year.
The foundation was formed as a result of a college survey conducted for a Sociology class in 1998. Fifty surveys were distributed in Martinsville, Indiana pertaining to the need for a shelter for victims of domestic violence in Morgan County. 76% of those surveyed indicated they had been victims of domestic violence and approximately 1/3 of those surveyed admitted to having spent time away from home due to domestic or family violence. The issue of having to leave Morgan County to seek safety is the main complaint of those who participated in the survey.

Scholarship based on financial need for a Mooresville High School student wishing to continue their education at a college or vocational school or provide financial need to an enrolled Ben Davis HS Building Trades Program.
Purpose: For a student with demonstrated financial need wishing to continue their education at a college or vocational school, or for a student currently enrolled in the Ben Davis HS Building Trades Program. The award may also be made to the winner of the State VICA award.
History: This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Devin Wade Deaton, known affectionately by his friends as βBig D.,β who passed away in 2004. Devin was a member of the Mooresville High School class of 2004 and attended Area 31 Vocational Training at Ben Davis High School. He was a member of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America and had an exceptional talent for masonry, winning many VICA awards. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors, and he was a member of the Forbidden Fantasy Car Club.

Indiana Hearing Health Foundation was established as a non-profit in February 2013 by a group of Sertomans and area citizens who recognized a large population in our communities were in need of accessible and affordable hearing health services and support and were not being served.
Our vision is to be a center of excellence for hearing health resources for ALL! We believe no one should be turned away due to financial or logistical limitations. We passionately feel it is quite an important medical issue that impacts the quality of life of not only the individual with needs but our communities as a whole.
Through the development of sponsor based and for-fee-services, we are building sustainable funding for the resources necessary to provide services and supports.

History: The fund was established in 2004 by Jeff and Gena Buis to honor the memory of their beloved daughter, Meaghan Buis, who passed away on July 4, 2002. Meaghan was a graduate of Eminence High School where she was a standout athlete, a 4-year member of the Lady Eels basketball team that won the regional championship her sophomore year, and a member of the volleyball team. Meaghan was also an incredible student. She was a member of the National Honor Society, graduated with honors, and was a student at Indiana University majoring in Biology with hopes to become a Pediatrician. She was an active member of the Eminence community and the Eminence Christian Church.

Purpose:
The Community Foundation of Morgan County, Inc. (CFMC) is the fiscal sponsor for the Morgan County Mapping Project, a sub-fund under the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration Commission Fund held here at our foundation. History: On the Newby campus is the original Mooresville High School Gymnasium Building (sometimes called the βNewby Domeβ). The gymnasium was built in the early 1920s with help from Mooresville residents who each contributed $100 to help build the facility.

Purpose: Donors Phillip and Carol McAteer have sustained and shared their personal conviction that educational opportunity and attainment are critically important, and in most instances mandatory, keys to self-esteem, career opportunity and personal advancement as both individuals and citizens.
The McAteers believe that not only does education pave the path to personal, career and family stability and success for those of all ages and circumstances, but also that no one should be denied the opportunity to earn the equivalency of his or her high school diploma because of an inability to pay the fees associated with the exam.
Funding will be provided to organizations that assist residents of Morgan County, Indiana, regardless of age, with earning their high school diploma or the completion of the High School Equivalency Assessment (HSEA), or its equivalent.

History: Stephen Eugene Carrell was born on February 9, 1944, in Martinsville, Indiana and was raised in Morgan County, and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1962. Steve studied art from an early age first under the tutelage Antonius Raemaekers and then went on to study art at the John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis from 1962-1964 and further at Indiana State University from 1964-1965. Steve served as a free-lance artist throughput his adult life and did many commissioned works of art. As well as many gifts of art, for friends, family and organizations throughout Morgan County and central Indiana. Steve will always be remembered by his loving family and friends for his generosity toward others and his joy for life, and the way in which his art seemed to become an outlet of expression for that generosity and joy.
