Fund Description:
To provide support to The Haven Youth Center for its prevention initiatives.
Purpose: To provide support to The Haven for programs that annually address at least two of the following areas: alcohol, tobacco (including smokeless tobacco), drug, and prescription drug abuse prevention.
History: The Haven was started in 1998 to serve the youth of Martinsville, IN. It provides a safe place to hang out with friends, play games, eat, study, learn new skills, and do community service projects. The Haven promotes eight developmental assets for youth: Support, Empowerment, Boundaries and Expectations, Constructive Use of Time, Commitment to Learning, Positive Values, Social Competencies and Positive Identity.
There has never been a charge for Haven programming. The Haven operates from 2:30-5:30 p.m. after school daily. The Haven operates a van which picks up students at both John R Wooden Middle School and Bell Intermediate Academy. The Haven operates from 1-5 pm during the summer.
