Endowment Scholarship Funds
Ann Haworth Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1055
Annual scholarship awarded to a Martinsville High School student ranked in the upper 1/4 of graduating class and who plans to attend an accredited college or university. The student should have participated in orchestra and/or choir during grades 10 -12
Purpose: For a student ranked in the upper 1/4 of the graduating class who participated in orchestra and/or choir during grades 10 through 12.
History: This scholarship was established in 1999 by Mrs. Blanche Haworth and Dr. Dillon Haworth to honor the memory of their daughter Laura Ann Haworth. Ann Haworth was involved in all aspects of the music program, particularly orchestra and choir. Ann would have graduated in 1961 but tragically passed away while a student at Martinsville High School.
Benjamin Elo Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund – 1207
Benjamin Elo Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund – 1207
For a varsity athlete with a 3.0 minimum GPA who intends to pursue a 4-year degree. Applicants must exhibit good citizenship, be involved in their church, and be involved in community service. Applicants must be a resident of Morgan County or have participated in the Ben Elo Memorial Soccer Camp. Two additional references and an additional essay required.
Purpose & Qualifications: The Benjamin Elo Memorial Scholarship provides a $5,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who has a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4-point scale who will be attending a four-year accredited public or private educational institution. Applicants must be a varsity athlete, exhibit good citizenship in their sports activity within school, be involved in their church, and be involved in community service organizations and activities. Applicants must have participated in the Ben Elo Memorial Soccer Camp or be Morgan County residents. Students attending the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana will also receive special consideration in the selection process. Applicants must provide three letters of reference: one from a coach, one from a pastor, and one from either a leader of a community organization or someone on the staff or faculty at school. Applicants must also write an additional essay of 500 words or less on: How your faith affects how you live and the choices you make.
Dorothy Asher Scholarship Fund – 1198
The specific purpose of this fund is to establish a scholarship fund for the education of elementary school teachers for residents of Morgan County, Indiana.
The Foundation shall determine the appropriate scholarship available for award depending upon the number of applicants and the amount of money so available.
In making selections and recommendations the Scholarship Advisory Committee and the Community Foundation shall give preference to recipients who intend to have a teaching career in Morgan County, Indiana, and scholarships may be awarded annually to the same recipient if the Foundation deems this appropriate for the progress the student may make. Recipients shall agree to attempt to obtain employment, if available, in Morgan County, Indiana, for at least one year upon completion of their education.
Eminence Alumni Association Scholarship Fund – 1060
Income from the fund will be used to provide scholarships to graduates of Eminence High School. The Eminence Alumni Association will develop the selection criteria. The fund will exist in perpetuity to support Eminence High School graduates
Freeman Goss Scholarship Fund – 1081
Provide support as directed by the board of directors of the foundation for educational scholarships, for students accepted into and attend accredited 2 or 4-year public or private institutions of higher learning
Purpose: For a deserving Martinsville High School senior who has taken business courses or been otherwise involved with the high school business curriculum
History: The Freeman Goss Scholarship was funded in 2008 by the Estate of Alice Goss. The scholarship is in honor of her husband, Freeman Goss, who died in 1995. The couple was married in 1947 and lived in Martinsville for many years. The scholarship is awarded to deserving Martinsville High School seniors and is awarded to encourage interest in the business curriculum at the high school
Henry E. Pearcy Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1068
Mr. Pearcy was a beloved teacher and served as principal of Martinsville High School for 22 years. The Henry E. Pearcy Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide reimbursement for tuition and/or books scholarships for students graduating senior from Martinsville
History: This scholarship was established by Ruth Shane Pearcy to honor the memory of her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Henry E. Pearcy, Sr.. Henry was a native of Morgan County, born July 21, 1922. In 1940 he graduated from Martinsville High School and married Ruth in 1942. Mr. Pearcy graduated from the Indiana State Teacher’s College with a master in Education in 1948. He was also known for his basketball ability, playing on the Indiana State team, the Indiana All-Star team, and playing for the Detroit Falcons in the NBA. During World War II he was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and flew 33 missions over Germany in a B-24 Bomber.
Mr. Pearcy had a remarkable career as an educator, coach, and administrator, serving as the Principal of Martinsville High School for 22 years. He was active in his local community, especially at the First United Methodist Church in Martinsville. He highly valued education and encouraged many to dedicate themselves to the education profession. He was a member of the Indiana State Principals Association and was Indiana’s principal of the year in 1982. Mr. Pearcy retired in 1986. This scholarship was created to honor his memory and his lifelong dedication to education and the youth of Morgan County.
Jennifer Tipmore Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1080
Provide a scholarship each year for a student graduating from Mooresville High School in Morgan County, Indiana
Purpose: For a student with at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstrated good character, and financial need who intends to pursue a 2 or 4-year degree at a vocational/technical school or at an accredited college or university.
History: Jennifer Tipmore was an honor student at Mooresville High School, graduating in 1999. In 2001 Jennifer passed away, and her family and friends created this scholarship to honor her memory while helping future students pursue higher education
John E. Koontz Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1051
To receive donations and other funds or property for charitable purposes. Income from the fund will be used to provide scholarships to graduates of Martinsville High School
Purpose: For students of personal excellence.
History: In 1995 the John E. Koontz Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of John E. Koontz, a long time teacher, and coach at Martinsville High School. John was a first-generation college student who always strived for personal excellence and had a special brand of determination. John is a member of both the Indiana Track and Field Hall of Fame and Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Joe Beikman Scholarship Fund - 1336
A memorial fund set up for Joe Beikman. A $1500 scholarship will go to a Mooresville High School Senior for assistance with an accredited technical certificate or trade school.
Judge James E. Harris Scholarship for Children in Need Endowment Fund – 1053
The Harris Scholarship Fund was established in honor of Judge Harris’ service to Morgan County upon his retirement in February of1999. The purpose of the fund is to provide educational support, either academic or vocational, for abused or neglected children
Justin & Bonita Conduitt Marley Scholarship Fund – 1058
Mrs. Marley, a former librarian at the Mooresville Public Library, established the Marley Scholarship Fund to provide reimbursement scholarships for tuition and/or books for students graduating from Mooresville and Monrovia High Schools entering vocational school
Purpose: For students entering vocational training, the field of education, or the field of library science.
History: In 1999 the Justin and Bonita Conduitt Marley Scholarship was established to honor Mr. Justin “Jud” Marley and Bonita Marley. Mr. Marley was a long-time activist in town, civic, and financial affairs. He served on the Mooresville Town Board and was a member of the Mooresville Methodist Church, Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge.
Mrs. Bonita Marley was also a member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was a Girl Scout leader and an enthusiastic participant in Eastern Star and Kappa Kappa Sorority. Mrs. Marley served on the Mooresville School Board from 1938-1946 as treasurer and president and she served as Head Librarian for 23 of the 27 years that she worked for the Mooresville Public Library. She was honored as Mooresvillian of the Year in 1968, she designed the Mooresville Town Flag in 1974, and in 1992 Mooresville High School honored her as Alumnus of the Year.
Maggie Grounds Scholarship Fund – 1052
Scholarship for female high school senior entering field of Architecture, contracting/building engineering, traditional drafting, architectural computer-aided design or another closely related study
Purpose: For a female high school senior entering the field of architecture, contracting/building engineering, traditional drafting, architectural computer-aided design or another very closely-related field of study.
History: In 1997, the Maggie Grounds Scholarship was established to help ensure that the young women of Morgan County had the opportunity to obtain a degree in a field of architecture, contracture/building, engineering, traditional drafting, architecture computer-aided design or another very closely-related study. Maggie Grounds is a former resident of Morgan County. She is retired after 55 years of work as an architect, then in WWII aerospace, and finally at Russell Stover. Maggie went to Purdue University and attended at least some part of the Indy 500 sixty-eight times. She has traveled to many countries and she enjoys correspondence with several former recipients
Martinsville Rotary Scholarship Endowment Fund – 1235
The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide support as directed by the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Community Foundation for educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend accredited two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning as described in Code section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii), and in particular to such students who meet the following qualifications:
The scholarship will be awarded each year, beginning when the endowment fund has reached its principal goal of $20,000, to a graduating senior at Martinsville High School, according to other criteria selected by the donor-advisory committee for this fund.
Meaghan Buis Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1070
Meaghan was a scholar, an athlete, and a leader at Eminence High School and in the Eminence community. The Meaghan Buis Fund will provide scholarships to graduates of Eminence High School who have participated in the basketball program
Purpose: For a student with a minimum 3.2 GPA who has participated in the Eminence High School girls or boys basketball program.
History: The fund was established in 2004 by Jeff and Gena Buis to honor the memory of their beloved daughter, Meaghan Buis, who passed away on July 4, 2002. Meaghan was a graduate of Eminence High School where she was a standout athlete, a 4-year member of the Lady Eels basketball team that won the regional championship her sophomore year, and a member of the volleyball team. Meaghan was also an incredible student. She was a member of the National Honor Society, graduated with honors, and was a student at Indiana University majoring in Biology with hopes to become a Pediatrician. She was an active member of the Eminence community and the Eminence Christian Church.
Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Memory of Dr. Julia Foster – 1088
Purpose:
For students with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA who intend to pursue a career in the medical field (open but not limited to medicine, pre-med, nursing, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory therapy, etc.).
History:
Julia Foster, M.D. was deeply respected by her peers in the medical profession, by all those whom she cared for and treated, and most deeply by her loving husband, son and a host of admiring family and friends. Julia’s informed and always other-directed compassion provided and will continue to provide a model of heartfelt caring and the best of the medical profession to all who knew of and benefitted from her unique spirit and humble, yet clearly superior skill. Julia’s uncompromising care for her family was an inspiration to her husband Jeff, to her child whom she loved so deeply and to all who were privileged to witness her life in the service of others.
Mooresville Band Parents Music Scholars Fund – 1061
The primary purpose of the fund is to promote and encourage the study of music through Mooresville Community School’s band program. Income from the fund will be used to support band activities and increase band participation
Purpose: The The purpose of the Fund shall be to promote and encourage the study of music through the Mooresville Community Schools’ Band program.
History: To help ensure the Mooresville Community Schools’ Band the Mooresville Band Parents Association Music Scholars Endowment Fund was established in 2000. The fund supports the band activities by increasing band participation, purchasing music, equipment, instructional services, and supplies. It also is a means in which the band program can utilize an outreach and recruitment program
Mooresville Kiwanis Curry Overton Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1100
Scholarship for tuition expenses, awarded each year to student(s) from Mooresville and Monrovia and the surrounding areas; award amounts may increase accordingly as the income generated from the fund grows
Purpose: Preference given to students from Mooresville and Monrovia and the surrounding areas. Preference to students selected to Kiwanis “Student of the Month” and students who have participated in service projects. Applicants should exemplify living by the Golden Rule and have earned a GPA of 2.5 or greater
MSD of Martinsville Endowed Scholarship Fund - 1334
Purpose: To provide support for private donations from businesses and individuals to support the mission of the MSD of Martinsville in providing educational opportunities for students.
Never Too Late Scholarship Fund – 1069
Scholarship for tuition, books and/or equipment to an adult over 30 yrs old who is returning to school to pursue a high school diploma, GED, associates, bachelors or graduate degree.
Purpose: For a Morgan County resident who is at least 30 years old, who is returning to school to pursue a high school diploma, G.E.D., Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or graduate degree. Preference is given to applicants with financial need, clearly defined educational goals, long-term career or personal objectives, and community involvement.
History: The fund was established in 2003 by Pauline Amy. Pauline wanted to honor the educational achievements of her beloved friend Carol Smile, who went back to school after raising her family to earn her G.E.D. and then to earn her nursing degrees. Pauline was inspired by her friend’s courageous attitude and decided to open up a scholarship fund. Pauline prepared the “Never Too Late Cookbook” and the profits from the cookbook are contributed to the scholarship each year.
Newburn-Asher Scholarship Fund – 1197
The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide support as directed by the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Community Foundation for educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend accredited two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning as described in Code section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii), and in particular to such students who meet the following qualifications:

The Foundation shall determine the appropriate scholarship available for award depending upon the number of applicants and the amount of money so available.
In making selections and recommendations the Scholarship Advisory Committee and the Community Foundation shall give preference to recipients who intend to have a healthy career in Morgan County, Indiana, and scholarships may be awarded annually to the same recipient if the Foundation deems this appropriate. Recipients shall agree to attempt to service employment, if available, in Morgan County, Indiana, for at least one year upon completion of their education.
In the event that the above criteria are too restrictive (because no student accepted to the Community Foundation meets the criteria, or for other reasons), the purpose of the Fund shall include the support of educational scholarships for deserving students who most closely satisfy the criteria. All support provided from the Fund shall further the educational, charitable, or other exempt purposes of the Community Foundation within the meaning of Code section 170(c)(1) or 170(c)(2)(B) and shall be consistent with the mission and purposes of the Community Foundation.
Sara Ryan Memorial Scholarship for Elementary Education Fund – 1333
Ms. Sara Ryan was a long standing educator in the Mooresville Schools from 1980-2001. Her love for education and dedication to her community is the reason for the scholarship.
Purpose: For a Mooresville high school senior who is pursuing a career in education (preference given to elementary education and financial need).
Scholarship Fund of Morgan County – 1209
All support provided from the Fund shall further the educational, charitable, or other exempt purposes of the Community Foundation within the meaning of Code section 170(c)(1) or 170(c)(2)(B) and shall be consistent with the mission and purposes of the Community Foundation.
SSG. Wm. Ryan Fritsche Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1203
Educational scholarships for students accepted into 2 – 4 year public or private institutions of higher learning.
Purpose: For a student with at least a 2.5 GPA who exhibits good character and citizenship and is interested in public service work, such as law enforcement, medical work, social work, child services, etc. Additional references and essay required.
History: William Ryan Fritsche was a life-long Morgan County resident. At the age of 23, he was killed in the line of duty on July 27, 2007, in Kamu, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. This scholarship was founded in 2008 by Brandi Fritsche, Ryan’s wife, and Volitta Fritsche, his mother. The Fritsche family started this scholarship to continue Ryan’s legacy of service and leadership in the Morgan County community. The scholarship provides funds for students enrolled in courses leading to careers in law enforcement, medical work, social work, child services, and other public service careers. Ryan was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army who joined upon graduation from Martinsville High School in 2002. He was awarded the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, a NATO citation, an Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon, and the Combat Infantry Badge for his exemplary service
Stierwalt Scholarship Fund- 1066
The Stierwalt Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarships for students graduating from Eminence High School or a high school in Morgan County who wish to further his/her education at a college or university in the State of Indiana
Purpose: For a student with proven moral character and a high-class rank who intends to further their education at a college or university in Indiana.
History: In 1974, Anna K. Stierwalt’s Last Will and Testament bequeathed the dividends of some of her stock to a scholarship fund through the Community Foundation of Morgan County. Anna and Claude were former residents of this area who wished to help further a student’s education.
Ted and Berta Romine/Monrovia Masonic Lodge #654 Scholarship Fund – 1079
To provide a $1000 scholarship each spring for a male or female senior of Monrovia High School who wishes to pursue an education in a trade school. Special 300-600 word essay explaining their goals after school
Purpose: For a student who wishes to pursue an education in a trade school or technical training area (ex: auto mechanics, law enforcement, healthcare, nursing, or electronics). A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Preference is given to students who explain their goals after school and why they chose their area of study. Preference is given to students with financial need.
Robert D. St. Clair Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1074
To provide annual scholarships for graduates of Martinsville High School. Criteria: 3.0 GPA, shall demonstrate good character and financial need, and shall enroll in and attend a 2-to 4-year program at a vocational/technical school
Purpose: For a student pursuing a 2 or 4-year program at a vocational/technical school or an accredited college or university, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants should demonstrate good character and financial need.
History: Robert St. Clair was a 1944 graduate of Ellettsville High School. He served as a tail gunner in the United States Navy during World War II. Robert St. Clair received a Journalism degree and a Law degree from Indiana University. He served as Justice of the Peace for Washington Township in the early 1950’s. He was also the longest-serving city attorney in the State of Indiana, serving under four different mayors of Martinsville, Indiana. He served as the GOP delegate to the State Convention for 50 years, selected every year but one since the age of 21. He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash and Distinguished Hoosier Awards for state service.
The John and Mary Gilbert Memorial Scholarship – 1056
The Gilbert Fund is a permanent fund, meaning that the principal will be preserved in perpetuity by the foundation and the income from the fund will provide scholarships to Morgan County 4-H students wishing to continue their education past high school
Purpose: To provide a financial award to a Morgan County student having completed 7th or 8th grade, who is currently in the Morgan County 4-H program. The recipient will receive the award upon completion of high school and enrollment in a continuing-education program by age 21.
History: The John R. Gilbert Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 to honor the memory of John Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was a livestock breeder who devoted countless hours of service to the Morgan County 4-H program. An Army veteran, Mr. Gilbert instilled his patriotism in the youth he worked with during his many years of service to 4-H.
Velma M. Hackelman-Mendenhall Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1062
Mrs. Mendenhall graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in music and art in primary education. She taught preschool and gave piano lessons to all ages. She taught piano and water-color art lessons in Mooresville for many years
Purpose: For a student pursuing a 2-4 year degree in education with a 2.5 minimum GPA.
History: Mrs. Hackleman-Mendenhall graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in music and art in primary education. She taught preschool and gave piano lessons to all ages. She taught piano and water-color art lessons in Mooresville for many years, and she served as the pianist for the United Methodist Church until she was 50 years old. Her family was an advocate for higher education and provides this scholarship for a student who wishes to pursue a degree in education.

Baby Brody Pendill Scholarship Fund – 1038
History: The Baby Brody Pendill Memorial Scholarship Fund was established soon after Brody became an angel in heaven.
Contributions can be made to the Baby Brody Pendill Scholarship Fund with Checks made out to the Community Foundation of Morgan County, 56 North Main Street, Martinsville, IN 46151 or by using the online secure donation process with the PayPal button on this page.
Purpose: The purpose of this fund is to offer a memorial scholarship but the details have not been defined as yet.
Bob Staggs Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1208
For educational scholarships for students who are accepted and attend accredited two or four year public or private institutions of higher learning or technical or trade schools
Purpose: For a student with at least a 2.5 GPA who was involved in sports activities in school and who is interested in a career in sports broadcasting, sports marketing or sports medicine. Applicants should explain this interest and their career goals in an essay. Applicants must exhibit good character, respect for others, and good citizenship in their sports activities and within a school. Additional references required.
History: Robert “Bob” Staggs was well known and respected in the Morgan County area as a lifelong resident and sports broadcaster. He was the voice of play-by-play commentary for radio sports on WCBK Radio during his 30-year broadcasting career. He further demonstrated his support for and loyalty to Martinsville High School sports programs by volunteering and helping the program even after his retirement as a broadcaster. This scholarship was established to honor his memory and perpetuate his legacy as a broadcaster in Morgan County.
Charles F. & Olive B. Flater Scholarship Fund – 1073
Purpose:
The Primary purpose of this fund shall be to provide an annual reimbursement scholarship for a student graduating from Mooresville High School in Morgan County, Indiana. The recipient shall demonstrate overall academic preparedness the ability to communicate future educational plans and the reasoning behind those plans; the ability to adjust to new learning and living environments; and exemplary ethical and moral conduct provided by the Mooresville High School Guidance Department. Recipients shall be chosen by a committee consisting of the Mooresville High School Principle, one Mooresville High School Guidance Counselor, and three Mooresville High School Senior Course Faculty Instructors.
Cheryl Owens Scholarship Fund – 1157
Purpose:
The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide support as directed by the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Community Foundation for educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend accredited trade certification, two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning as described in Code section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii), and in particular to such students who meet the following qualifications: Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, show financial need, are 1st generation students, and have been, or are, on free and reduced lunch.
In the event that the above criteria are too restrictive (because no student acceptable to the Community Foundation meets the criteria, or for other reasons), the purpose of the Fund shall include the support of educational scholarships for deserving students who most closely satisfy the criteria. All support provided from the Fund shall further the educational, charitable, or other exempt purposes of the Community Foundation within the meaning of Code section 170(c)(1) or 170(c)(2)(B) and shall be consistent with the mission and purposes of the Community Foundation.
Dax’s Dream Fund – 1077
Dax’s Dream Fund Mission: To cultivate big and small joys for young adults living with cancer
Purpose: This fund will provide a non-renewable, one-year scholarship for an undergraduate student in good academic standing who is between the ages of 18 and 35 and living with the challenges and uncertain futures associated with a serious cancer diagnosis.
History: This fund was created to honor the memory of Dax Brodhacker. Dax enjoyed great fun, fulfilling social interactions and acceptance, a strong sense of loyalty and the perseverance to achieve through his association with his fraternity brothers. Dax was inspired to complete all academic requirements for his baccalaureate degree with a major in Communications from the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University at Bloomington despite diagnosis of what proved all too soon to be a life-ending illness. Despite his illness, he gained strength from his undergraduate classmates and within his Delta Pi Chapter of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity at IU- Bloomington to pursue and achieve their educational goals with renewed commitment.
Ellis Robinson/First Christian Church Scholarship Fund for Fellowship of Christian Athletes – 1063
Provide scholarships for Mooresville High School students to attend Fellowship of Athletes Camp
Emily Downey Memorial Fund – 1041
For educational scholarships for students accepted into two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning.
The scholarship will be for $1,000 each year for college
Purpose: Preference given to students who have been directly involved in at least two interscholastic sports activities (either as an athlete or student support staff). Preference also is given to female students or students with at least average academic achievement. The student must be graduating from Indian Creek High School but can reside in any county.
History: The Emily Downey Memorial Fund was established in 2012 to honor the memory of Emily Downey, a former Indian Creek student-athlete. Emily Downey was a wonderful student, athlete, daughter, sister, and friend. Her personality was luminescent, and her smile will never be forgotten. This scholarship was created by her friend to honor her memory and ensure that it will live on long after the class of 2009. Emily changed many lives, and it is with this scholarship that we hope to change much more. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but her love left memories that sadness could never steal.
Eric Pierce Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1086
For a student pursuing a major in Outdoors/Parks/Environment with demonstrated financial need graduating from Martinsville High School. This scholarship was established to commemorate Eric Pierce, who was a student at Martinsville High School.
In the event that the above criteria are too restrictive, the purpose of the Fund shall include the support of educational scholarships for deserving students who most closely satisfy the criteria.
Purpose: Academic Scholarship for students with at least a 3.0 GPA. Vocational Scholarship: For students with at least a 2.3 GPA. For students with demonstrated financial need.
History: At the Forty-third Annual Eminence High School Alumni Banquet, the Eminence Alumni Committee and other alumni discussed and approved the idea of forming an association to promote Eminence High School and address the needs of the community. After suggestions to begin and finance a scholarship, generous donations helped create this fund to support graduates of Eminence High School.
Fables and Fairy Tales Scholarship - 1331
The amount of the annual scholarship award shall be $1,500 for an award recipient.
Purpose: A scholarship for a Morgan County student graduating by May of the current year who displays excelent citizenship and an essay based on a book the student has read. Preference given to those with a financial need.
History: Fables and Fairy Tales, a children’s bookshop in Martinsville, IN. We have books for Tots – Teens as well as a small section for the young at heart (also known as adults). We also have high quality toys and retro board games. We are located on the newly revitalized historic downtown square in Martinsville, IN.
Gordon Leigh Speer Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1139
For students who are accepted into and attend Rose Hulman Institute of Technology
Purpose: For a senior graduating from any high school in Morgan County or Indian Creek High School who intends to study at The Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. Preference is given to students studying engineering. The goal is to assist students of high academic achievement and potential.
History: This scholarship honors Gordon Leigh Speer, who raised eight children, shared a strong work ethic with his family, and honored the cause and benefits of education
Gwynn Wilkins Camp Scholarship Fund – 1085
To provide fee support as directed by the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for scholarships for needy students from Morgan County to attend Bradford Woods Camp in Morgan County, IN
Hubert Bastin Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1310
Purpose:
The Purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory of Hubert Bastin, who led an exemplary life as loving husband, patriotic and decorated soldier in the Pacific theatre of World War II, caring and compassionate father of four, teacher, coach and public school administrator. He is remembered with great gratitude and warm fondness by an overwhelming cohort of citizens who know personally of his humble but life-changing work as teacher and coach prior to his retirement in 1981.
The scholarship is now for one $500 award for any college expenses and is not renewable. The award is offered each year to a Martinsville High School senior who has a great desire, but not the financial support, to further her or his education in a vocational, technical, or professional career. Although not a requirement, it is desired that the applicants shall have attended Poston Road Elementary School.
All gifts received for the fund should be made payable to the Community Foundation of Morgan County, Inc., and marked with a memo naming the fund. A one-time gift, or perhaps an annual donation to help build the scholarship fund over time, would be greatly appreciated. Gifts to the CFMC are fully tax deductible.

Kaitlyn Fulkerson Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1084
Scholarship at Mooresville High School. The scholarship will begin with the graduating class of 2014; one scholarship shall be awarded each year to a graduating Mooresville High School senior with a 3.0
Purpose: For a student with at least a 3.0 GPA who exhibits good character, respect for others, and good citizenship. The scholarship looks to recognize a student who sets a good example with their peers and in the community. Additional references required.
History: The Kaitlyn Fulkerson Memorial Scholarship was established to commemorate and celebrate the life of Kaitlyn Fulkerson who would have graduated with the Mooresville High School class of 2014. She was an outgoing and loving person, a gifted student, and had a fun spirit. The fund was established with memorial contributions for Kaitlyn, who passed away on September 15, 2011.

To establish an advised scholarship pass-through fund for students who are accepted into and attend accredited two-or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning
Purpose: For students in the upper ½ of the graduating class with strong moral character and demonstrated academic achievement. Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need.
History: Formerly the Monrovia New Horizons Scholarship, this fund provides scholarships to one or more graduating seniors from Monrovia High School.
Mooresville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund – 1308
The applicant shall be a senior graduating from Mooresville HS in the year of application
Purpose: Each year the Mooresville High School Alumni Association offers a scholarship for graduates of Mooresville High School to advance their education and careers by building upon their education at Mooresville High School with further education.
History: This scholarship fund was established because the Mooresville High School Alumni Association feels a duty to leave a legacy for students who may not otherwise benefit from a helping hand despite their ability to obtain further training and education.
Owen L. Prescott and Dorothea I. Prescott Scholarship Fund – 1071
The scholarship shall be based upon the character, need, and high school record of the student
Purpose: For a student seeking a 2-4 year degree. This scholarship will be based upon the character, need, and high school record of the applicant.
History: This scholarship was created by the estate of Owen Prescott to promote post-secondary education opportunities to Mooresville High School graduates. This fund honors Owen L. Prescott and Dorothea I. Prescott, alumni of Mooresville High School who were very supportive of Mooresville youth and the promotion of post-secondary education.
Pass It On Scholarship – 1027
Purpose:
The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide support as directed by the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Community Foundation for educational scholarships for students who are accepted into and attend accredited two- or four-year public or private institutions of higher learning as described in Code section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii), and in particular to such students who meet the following qualifications:
- It is intended that this scholarship shall be awarded to a student or multiple students who have the potential to succeed in higher education but might not otherwise easily qualify for substantial scholarship support.
- This scholarship shall be made by nomination and not an application. The Principal of Monrovia High School will nominate a student (or students) who meet the following criteria for consideration by the Donor who, if he agrees with the nomination, will recommend one or more recipients to the Community Foundation Scholarship Committee for approval. Following the Donor’s death the recommendation(s) from the Principal shall go directly to the Scholarship Selection Committee of the Community Foundation for approval.
- The scholarship recipient(s) shall be seniors graduating from Monrovia High School in the Monroe-Gregg School District.
- The donor’s name shall be held confidential during his lifetime but may be revealed after his passing, or earlier if Donor decides to change this stricture.
- The scholarship amount shall never be less than $ 1,800 per awardee, and shall be presented only for one time per student.
- Presentation of the scholarship shall include the story about “Passing It On” as written by the Donor for presentation to future recipients, whether explained by the school Principal, Donor, or a representative of the Community Foundation of Morgan County.
- Scholarship winners shall also receive a presentation copy of a book like “Great Quotes from Great Leaders,” compiled by Peggy Anderson (available from Simple Truths, www.simpletruths.com) or a comparable inspirational text that reinforces the “Passing It On” ideal.In the event that the above criteria are too restrictive (because no student accepted to the Community Foundation meets the criteria, or for other reasons), the purpose of the Fund shall include the support of educational scholarships for deserving students who most closely satisfy the criteria. All support provided from the Fund shall further the educational, charitable, or other exempt purposes of the Community Foundation within the meaning of Code section 170(c)(1) or 170(c)(2)(B) and shall be consistent with the mission and purposes of the Community Foundation.

Sergeant Dan Starnes Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1064
The Dan Starnes Fund is a non-permanent fund which will provide scholarships to Morgan County students wishing to study law enforcement
Purpose: For a student pursuing a 2-4 year degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public safety, or a closely related field. Applicants must have a 2.0 minimum GPA, demonstrate academic promise, and have demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to students with work experience, good character, community involvement, and a healthy lifestyle. Additional short essay required.
History: On Dec. 19, 1975, he married Janice (Lewis) Starnes and the couple later had two sons, Dustin and Ryan, who now serves as Indiana State Troopers.
Sgt. Starnes worked as a member of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department from 1995 to 2001. He was honored to serve Morgan County in many capacities, even outside of his job, including security for Martinsville High School, Bradford Woods, Paragon Speedway and a private investigation firm. He also worked the D.A.R.E. Program and was the Head Advisor for the Morgan County Cadet Explorer Program, working with the youth of Morgan County focusing on law enforcement careers. He was a volunteer fireman for Gregg Township for 20 years and a member of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association. He was also active at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and four-wheel riding with his sons. He was a great family man- his wife of 25 years, Janice, and his sons Dustin & Ryan were the most important part of his life.
Sgt. Starnes was shot while on duty on Flag Day, June 14, 2001, and died on July 10, 2001, from his injuries. His son, Ryan, was riding along with him as part of his college internship program and was also shot and slightly injured. His family was determined to make sure that his memory would not be forgotten, so in 2001 they established the Sergeant Dan Starnes Memorial Scholarship at the Community Foundation of Morgan County to provide scholarships for Morgan County residents to study law enforcement or criminal justice.
Interested individuals may donate to this fund online, or by contacting the Community Foundation of Morgan County and noting that the gift should be placed in the Sergeant Dan Starnes Memorial Scholarship fund.
Steven Lee Robert Terrell Memorial Scholarship Fund – 1180
Scholarship for senior graduating from Mooresville High School who has participated in athletics and seeking to continue education. $500 awarded each year to one recipient
Purpose: For a student who has participated in athletics who is seeking to continue their education. Preference is given to students with financial need.
History: This scholarship was established in memory Steven Lee Robert Terrell, a Mooresville High School student and athlete who was killed in an automobile accident in November 2003. An honorary graduate of the class of 2004, he was a member of National Honor Society and ranked in the top 10% of his class. He was a successful athlete, avid baseball card collector, tri-captain of the football team, member of the 2003 football sectional team, and lead the team in tackles in his senior year. He displayed true dedication and even played all season with a broken wrist.
TOA-USA Scholarship Fund – 1078
2016 Extention of original Scholarship: The amount of the annual scholarship awards shall be $1,500 for each award recipient (2) until the balance of the fund is depleted.
Purpose: For a student with demonstrated work ethic seeking to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution. Preference is given to students with financial need.
History: TOA is a Japanese-based company that makes braking systems. TOA –USA came to Mooresville in 2005, which was the first location opened in the United States. Being community-minded, they chose to provide this scholarship through the Community Foundation.
