Lilly Endowment Scholarship Application

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) awards full-tuition scholarships to students from each county in Indiana.

Eligibility:

  • Students must attend a Morgan County school at the time of application or reside in Morgan County.
  • Applicants must be high school seniors graduating by June 30, 2022.
  • Applicants must have a high school diploma from an Indiana high school accredited by the State Board of Education or by a national or regional accreditation agency that is recognized by the State Board of Education.
  • Recipients must pursue undergraduate study in a baccalaureate program on a full-time basis.
  • Recipients may attend any accredited public or private four-year college or university in Indiana.

Benefits:

  • Two scholarships will be awarded to Morgan County residents
  • Pays full tuition and required fees for four years; no re-application process is required
  • $900 book stipend each year
  • Does not pay room, board, or travel expenses

Timeline:

  • Monday, July 6: Online Application Portal Opens
  • Monday, July 6: How to apply videos will be posted on the website and provided to all guidance counselors
  • Friday, August 27: Applications Due by 4pm (No exceptions)
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 12&13: Finalist Interviews (Finalists for the interviews will be notified via email once evaluations have been completed)
  • Scholarship winners will be notified by Winter Break

We know it’s stressful to apply for scholarships and think about the future, for both parents and students. That’s why we’re here for you! We are a one-stop-shop for information on every scholarship we offer. We’ve got helpful tips, resources and will do our best to answer all of your questions.

To be eligible for any CFMC scholarship, students must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited public or private non-profit institution of higher education. Please note that listed award amounts may be subject to change.

Timeline:
Submissions will open on November 6th, 2020 and will remain open until January 7th, 2021.

Scholarship Information

Benjamin Elo Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $5,000)

  • For a varsity athlete with a 3.0 minimum GPA who intends to pursue a 4-year degree. Applicants must exhibit good citizenship, be involved in their church, and be involved in community service. Applicants must have participated in the Ben Elo Memorial Soccer Camp or be Morgan County residents. Two additional references and an additional essay required.

Dorothy Asher Scholarship (Multiple @ $3,000)

  • For students pursuing higher education to become an elementary school teacher.

Gordon Leigh Speer Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • For a senior graduating from any high school in Morgan County or Indian Creek High School who intends to study at The Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. Preference given to students studying engineering. The goal is to assist students of high academic achievement and potential. 

Judge James E. Harris Scholarship for Children in Need (1 @ $1,000)

  • The Harris Scholarship Fund was established in honor of Judge Harris service to Morgan County upon his retirement in February, 1999. The purpose of the fund is to provide educational support, either academic or vocational, for abused or neglected children.

Memorial Scholarship in Memory of Dr. Julia Foster & In Tribute to Jeff Hunsucker (1 @ $2,000)

  • For students with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA who intend to pursue a career in the medical field (open but not limited to medicine, pre-med, nursing, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory therapy, etc.)

Newburn-Asher Scholarship (Multiple @ $2,000)

  • For students pursuing higher education in a health care field.

Sergeant Dan Starnes Memorial Scholarship (2 @ $1,500)

  • For a student pursuing a 2-4 year degree or an applicant wanting to continue their education in law enforcement, criminal justice, public safety, or a closely related field. Applicants must have a 2.0 minimum GPA, demonstrate academic promise, and have demonstrated financial need. Preference given to students with work experience, good character, community involvement, and a healthy lifestyle. This scholarship has potential to be awarded for multiple years. Additional short essay required.

SSG. Wm. Ryan Fritsche Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $2,000)

  • For a student with at least a 2.5 GPA who exhibits good character and citizenship and is interested in public service work, such as: law enforcement, medical work, social work, child services, etc. Additional references and essay required.

Eminence Alumni Association Scholarship (1 @ $1,500)

  • Academic Scholarship: For students with at least a 3.0 GPA. Vocational Scholarship: For students with at least a 2.3 GPA. For students with demonstrated financial need.

Meaghan Buis Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $1,500)

  • For a student graduating from Eminence High School. The recipient shall have a GPA of at least 3.2 and shall have participated in the Eminence High School girls or boys basketball program.

Meredith Knieper Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $2,000)

  • The Meredith Knieper Memorial Scholarship will directly benefit a Morgan County high school student from Monroe-Greg School, MSD of Martinsville, Mooresville Consolidated School Corp, and Eminence Community School.  Essay (300 – 600 words):  In her too short but remarkable life, Meredith Knieper demonstrated a sense of personal excellence, characterized by a sense of purpose, focus, and determination.  Describe for the Committee your vison of personal excellence, your plan of action for achieving it, and the role your education will play in your plan.

Stierwalt Scholarship (1 @ $1,500)

  • For a student with proven moral character and a high class rank who intends to further their education at a college or university in Indiana.

 

Emily Downey Memorial Scholarship Fund (1 @ $1,500)

  • For a student with average or below-average grades from Indian Creek High School, without requirement as to county of residence.

Ann Haworth Memorial Scholarship (Multiple @ $2,500)

  • For a student ranked in the upper 1/4 of the graduating class who participated in orchestra and/or choir during grades 10 through 12.

Bob Staggs Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $500)

  • For a student with at least a 2.5 GPA who was involved in sports activities in school and who is interested in a career in sports broadcasting, sports marketing or sports medicine. Applicants should explain this interest and their career goals in an essay. Applicants must exhibit good character, respect for others, and good citizenship in their sports activities and within school. Additional references required.

Bob Williamson Scholarship (Multiple @ $500)

  • For student-athletes graduating from Martinsville High School. Applicants for this scholarship must show distinguished achievement in athletics, with one scholarship going to a Martinsville football player and another going to a female competing in IHSAA sports.

Eric Pierce Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • For a student pursuing Outdoors/Parks/Environment, with demonstrated financial need.

Freeman Goss Scholarship (2 @ $1,000)

  • For a deserving Martinsville High School senior who has taken business courses or been otherwise involved with the high school business curriculum.

When G. Hochsteler Scholarship (3 @ $500)

  • This scholarship provides tuition assistance for a graduating student with career plans related to industrial arts. The award for payment of fees or tuition will be made to the student’s choice of technical college, trade school, 2 or 4-year college or university, for either a degree or certificate. High moral character, good citizenship, ambition and determination to succeed, financial need, exhibited diversity of technical education, and enthusiasm and respect for industrial endeavors.

John E. Koontz Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $500)

  • For students who exemplify a vision of personal excellence, both academically and athletically.

John R. Wooden Scholastic Scholarship (2 @ $1,000)

  • This scholarship is awarded annually to a Martinsville High School student athlete who has excelled academically and also displayed the high moral character and faith-based attitudes exhibited by John R. Wooden.

Maggie Grounds Scholarship (2 @ $1,500)

  • For a high school senior entering the field of architecture, contracting/building engineering, traditional drafting, architectural computer-aided design or another very closely-related field of study. Preference will be given to a female.

Martinsville Memorial Scholarship (2 @ $1,000)

  • This scholarship is for a student in the upper 1⁄2 of his or her class. Be accepted by a trade, technical, business school, or college/university. Receive no other major (large) scholarship. Be involved in at least one extracurricular activity in high school. Be considered on basis of academic and extracurricular achievement with financial need a determiner if all other qualifications are equal.

Martinsville Rotary Scholarship Endowment Fund (1 @ $1,500)

  • For students who will attend a 2- or 4-year higher education institution. 

Meredith Knieper Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $2,000)

  • The Meredith Knieper Memorial Scholarship will directly benefit a Morgan County high school student from Monroe-Greg School, MSD of Martinsville, Mooresville Consolidated School Corp, and Eminence Community School.  Essay (300 – 600 words):  In her too short but remarkable life, Meredith Knieper demonstrated a sense of personal excellence, characterized by a sense of purpose, focus, and determination.  Describe for the Committee your vison of personal excellence, your plan of action for achieving it, and the role your education will play in your plan.  

Robert D. St. Clair Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $13,853)

  • To provide annual scholarships for graduates of Martinsville High School. Criteria: 3.0 GPA, shall demonstrate good character and financial need, and shall enroll in and attend a 2-to 4-year program at a vocational/technical school or at an accredited college.

Cheryl Owens Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • For a first generation student attending college and has a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Linda Huttsell Academic Scholarship (Multiple @ $2,000)

  • For students in the upper ½ of the graduating class with strong moral character and demonstrated academic achievement. Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need.

  • Preference given to students from Mooresville and Monrovia and the surrounding areas. Preference to students selected to Kiwanis “Student of the Month” and students who have participated in service projects. Applicants should exemplify living by the Golden Rule and have earned a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Ted and Berta Romine/Monrovia Masonic Lodge #654 Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • For a student who wishes to pursue an education in a trade school or technical training area (ex: auto mechanics, law enforcement, healthcare, nursing, or electronics).  A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Preference given to students who explain their goals after school and why they chose their area of study. Preference given to students with financial need.

Charles F. & Olive B. Flater Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • The recipient shall demonstrate overall academic preparedness; the ability to communicate future educational plans and the reasoning behind those plans; the ability to adjust to new learning and living environments; and explary ethical and moral conduct as relates to school, fellow students and faculty.

Jennifer Tipmore Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $500)

  • To honor Jennifer’s memory, the Jennifer Tipmore Memorial Scholarship Fund was established here to provide a scholarship each year for a student graduating from Mooresville High School.  The recipient of this scholarship must have a GPA of at least 3.0, demonstrate good character and financial need for assistance.  Additionally, the successful recipient intends to enroll in and attend a 2 to 4 year program at a vocational/technical school or an accredited college or university. 

Joe Beikman Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • This scholarsip will benefit a Mooresville High School Senior planning on attending a trade school.

Meredith Knieper Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $2,000)

  • The Meredith Knieper Memorial Scholarship will directly benefit a Morgan County high school student from Monroe-Greg School, MSD of Martinsville, Mooresville Consolidated School Corp, and Eminence Community School.  Essay (300 – 600 words):  In her too short but remarkable life, Meredith Knieper demonstrated a sense of personal excellence, characterized by a sense of purpose, focus, and determination.  Describe for the Committee your vison of personal excellence, your plan of action for achieving it, and the role your education will play in your plan.

Mooresville High School Alumni Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • For a student with demonstrated financial need whose parent or grandparent is also a Mooresville High School alumnus. Applicants should give an example of how they confronted or overcame a specific challenge.

Mooresville Kiwanis Curry Overton Memorial Scholarship (1 @$1,000)

  • Preference given to students from Mooresville and Monrovia and the surrounding areas. Preference to students selected to Kiwanis “Student of the Month” and students who have participated in service projects. Applicants should exemplify living by the Golden Rule and have earned a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Owen L. Prescott and Dorothea I. Prescott Scholarship (1@$1,500)

  • For a student seeking a 2-4 year degree. This scholarship will be based upon the character, need, and high school record of the applicant.

Sara Ryan Memorial Scholarship for Elementary Education (1 @ $1,000)

  • A Mooresville high school senior should be pursuing a career in education (preference to elementary education). Financial need will also be considered.

Steven Lee Robert Terrell Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $1,000)

  • For a student who has participated in athletics who is seeking to continue their education. Preference given to students with financial need.

TOA-USA Scholarship (1 @ $1,500)

  • For students with demonstrated work ethic seeking to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution. One need-based scholarship and one merit-based scholarship will be awarded.

Velma M. Hackelman-Mendenhall Memorial Scholarship (1 @ $1,900)

  • For a student pursuing a 2-4 year degree in education with a 2.5 minimum GPA

Never Too Late Scholarship Fund (1 @ $1,500)

  • For a Morgan County resident who is at least 30 years old, who is returning to school to pursue a high school diploma, G.E.D., Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or graduate degree.  Preference given to applicants with financial need, clearly defined educational goals, long-term career or personal objectives, and community involvement.

The John and Mary Gilbert Memorial Scholarship ($500)

  • Morgan County Student having completed 7th or 8th grade, who is currently in the Morgan County 4-H program and will remain in the 4-H program. With preference given to students in the 4-H Sheep Program.

Artie Fest
($1,000)

  • For a senior graduating from Martinsville High School, Tabernacle Christian School, or be a homeschooled Martinsville resident.

Brummett Star Scholarship
($1,000)

  • For a graduating senior who has supported the local community.

John D. Rudd Memorial Scholarship
($1,000)

  • For high school seniors in Brown, Clay, Johnson, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, and Putnam counties who live in an SCI REMC household and contribute to Operation RoundUp.

Home Bank Scholarships
(3 @ $1,000 plus an additional $500 to a non-profit of choice)

  • For graduating high school seniors who hold an account at Home Bank.

Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution
